Remembering Lee

From: Your Sustut River friends and Steelhead Valhalla Lodge

We are saying a sad adieu to our friend Lee Philpott who passed away in his prime fishing years due to cancer. We first met Lee in 2012 when he and a group of his fishing buddies joined us from England. The gang all had nicknames and they would soon be known as Verbals; Psycho; Dark Cloud and Creepy. Lee, aka Verbals, soon became one of our favorite clients—due to his bright nature, positive outlook on things, incredible sense of humor and kindness. The Sustut was a special place to Lee and steelhead one of his favorite fish.

At the suggestion of Lee's fishing friends, we have set up a page for everyone to make donations in his honour to the Wild Fish Conservancy and its efforts to help Alex Morton fight open pen salmon farming in British Columbia. These businesses spread sea lice, bacterial and viral diseases and pollutants by the ton—all exceptionally damaging to wild salmon and steelhead. We appreciate any and all donations to this cause; we believe it will make a big difference to this fish Lee so loved.

Lee was a first-class man, father, son, husband, friend to all and as for his angling ability… that was first class as well. He always had a smile on his face and sparkle in his eye and you just knew he might be up to a bit of mischief. It was an honor and a privilege to be able to fish and spend time with him. We will miss his fellowship, laughter and spirit and raise a G&T in his honor when we get back to the Sustut this season.

Wild Fish Conservancy is a 501(c)3 non-profit. All donations are tax-deductible.
